Privacy Policy

Last updated November 2, 2026

The short version

  • Your set, line and property locations are private to you and the crew you invite.
  • We never sell your information and never share it for advertising.
  • You can export your records or have your account deleted any time.

Who we are

Sprung Trapline is run by SprungTrapline, based in Nova Scotia, Canada. We decide how the personal information described here is used and we're responsible for it under Canadian privacy law, including the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). Privacy questions and requests: hello@sprungtrapline.com.

What we collect and why

  • Account details: your email address, name and sign-in details (passwords are stored scrambled). Used to create your account, sign you in and contact you about your account.
  • Trapper profile: your display name and, if you add it, your trapping licence number. Shown on your reports and to your crew.
  • Set, line and property locations: where your sets are, the lines you draw and the property outlines you mark, with their notes. Stored so your line syncs between your devices and with your crew.
  • Catch logs: species, weight, condition, date and which set each catch came from. Used for your season totals, reports and exports.
  • Photos: catch photos you add. If you use photo species ID (Pro), the photo is sent to an AI service to suggest the species.
  • Your phone's location: used while the map is open to show where you are and plan your check order. Your phone asks first, and it stays on your phone unless you save it with a set or catch.
  • Device information: device and browser type, IP address and error reports. Used to keep the service secure, prevent fraud and fix problems.
  • Messages you send us through the contact form or email, so we can reply.

We collect this with your consent when you sign up and use the app, and only use it to run and improve Sprung Trapline for you.

Your locations stay private

Set locations are never public, never shared with other users outside your crew, and never sold. Not to advertisers, not to anyone. Only you and the trappers you invite to your line can see its sets, lines, properties and catches. If you join someone else's crew, the line owner and that crew see the catches you log on their line.

Who processes it for us

We use a small number of service providers, only to run the app:

  • Hosting, database and sign-in: Lovable and its cloud infrastructure providers store your account and trap line records.
  • Payments: Paddle, our Merchant of Record, sells plans and handles payments, subscriptions, tax and invoices. Card details go to Paddle, not to us; we only receive your plan and its dates.
  • Photo species ID: the AI service used through Lovable's AI gateway receives the catch photo you choose to check, plus the date and rough location to help with the suggestion.
  • Weather and maps: Google Maps Platform provides the map and weather; your map location is sent to look up wind and conditions. OpenFreeMap provides the map tiles you save for use with no signal.
  • Advisers and authorities: our legal and accounting advisers when needed, and authorities where the law requires it.

Some of these providers store or process data outside Canada, including in the United States, where it may be subject to local law. We choose providers that protect it with contracts and security measures.

How long we keep it

We keep your information while your account is open. If you close your account we delete or anonymise it within 30 days, except records we must keep by law (such as sales records, which Paddle keeps). Contact messages are kept for up to 2 years.

Export or delete your data

  • Export: download your catch log as a CSV file, or your season report as a PDF, from the Season tab in the app at any time.
  • Delete your account: email hello@sprungtrapline.com from the address on your account and we'll delete your account and all your trap line records within 30 days. A season plan or subscription should be cancelled first.

Your rights

You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, correct it, get a copy, or have it deleted, and you can withdraw consent (for example, by turning off location in your phone settings). Email hello@sprungtrapline.com and we'll respond within 30 days. If you're not satisfied, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Security

We protect your information with encryption in transit, access rules so only you and your crew can see your line, and limited access for the people who run the service.

Cookies and phone storage

Sprung Trapline uses only essential storage on your device: keeping you signed in, saving your line and map areas for use without signal, and remembering settings. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies. Clearing this storage in your browser signs you out and removes offline copies.

Changes

If we change this policy in a significant way we'll tell you in the app or by email. See also our Terms of Service.
